We join others across the country in condemning the violence witnessed in our Nation’s Capitol and want to reiterate the values of Forn Sidr as they stand in contrast to this attempt at insurrection. We know that as a community we will have differing political views, however, there must be mutual respect and it must be a value that we hold on to.

Much like the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of acknowledgement of structural and systemic racism in our society, these dark instants also serve as reminders of our own responsibilities. We know that for many members of our community what happened is a painful reminder of injustice, and to them we offer our support and we will provide opportunities to heal.

Individually, we should look to our own personal oaths and consider our values as a community. Collectively we have the ability to affect real and meaningful social change but first we need to pause and collect ourselves. Breathe and figure out how to move on. As an organization, these events haven strengthened our resolve and now it is our duty to make these goals a reality.

In solidarity,

– The Council of Forn Sidr of America
